It’s the confirmation we’ve all been waiting for.

Apparently, just because you were cool at school, it doesn’t mean you will go on and be a success later in life, giving hope to all the geeks and misfits out there. Take note mean girls and sports boys. Being popular as a teenager really isn’t the best thing in the world, even though it might seem so at the time.

This is according to a study, ‘Whatever happened to the cool kids?’ that was published by the University of Virginia.

Professor Joel Allen claimed:

It appears that while so-called cool teens’ behaviour might have been linked to early popularity, over time, these teens needed more and more extreme behaviours to try to appear cool, at least to a sub-group of other teens.

So they became involved in more serious criminal behaviour and alcohol and drug use as adolescence progressed.

These previously cool teens appeared less competent – socially and otherwise – than their less cool peers by the time they reaches young adulthood.

So it turns out there really is such a thing as peaking too early.
