It appears the police force in Sydney, New South Wales, have had quite the delivery today. They have been spotted with a $450,000 McLaren 650s.
Instagrammer thelowdown snapped the picture this morning of the coppers new toy. I have to complement ’em. That is a damn fine piece of machinery and people will surely think twice before engaging in a high-speed chase with the force.
Do they know something we don’t? Is a dystopian future on the horizon? Is shit about to turn all Mad Max down under? I better upgrade my ’94 Ford Falcon asap.
The McLaren is capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds thanks to its 478kW V8 engine. My Ford is about the same.
Unfortunately, the truth is that it’s not a toy. The police have confirmed that the vehicle is a promotional tool to help raise money for the families of fallen police. It comes at no cost to tax payers.
In previous years they have received an Audi RS4 and a Porsche Panamera. The cars are donated and the manufacturers cover all the costs, except for fuel, the police have to cover that one.
They are likely to still use their trusty Ford GT-F’s overall of course. The GT-F is a beast in its own right. The big supercharged V8 engine under the bonnet packs a whopping 600kW of power, 150kW more than a Ford V8 Supercar.
