Is there seriously nothing else going on in the world? Okay then, here’s another story about Avengers: Endgame.
So what if there’s still 87 days until we find out what happens to our heroes in a post-Snap MCU, we’ve got to keep ourselves entertained for the next two and a half months.
When I started working here I didn’t force myself to watch 18 comicbook movies to get myself up to speed for Infinity War only to find out exactly how said film ended before I got to the cinema. Oh wait, yes, I did exactly that. So please excuse any indifference if I’m about to spoil the next chapter.
ICYMI Thanos did a naughty at the end of Infinity War and destroyed half of all living things in the universe. Yeah, that sentence still smarts almost a year on after ruining my trip to the local IMAX, and I’m sure for actual Marvel fans seeing your favourite heroes turn to dust must bring a tear to the eye.
So I guess that puts us all in a position of anticipation to find out what happened to our friends that now resemble the contents of an ashtray.
Fortunately, with the first trailer dropping before Christmas it appears the hype machine is gearing itself up to enter overdrive for the cinematic behemoth, as stars are starting to tease us of things to come.
Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson, who is Falcon – the chap with the robot wings – appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and gave an insight to his character’s fate.
Mackie told Fallon:
Well, obviously, if you didn’t see part three [Avengers: Infinity War], spoiler alert, I died.
He wasn’t alone. The big twist that no one saw coming turned not just Falcon but Spider-Man, Bucky Barnes, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Scarlett Witch and the rest of the Guardians apart from Rocket to name a few of half the universe…
He added:
A lot of people died. So I’m gainfully unemployed. And that’s why I’m doing other movies now.
Personally, I reckon this is a misdirect, what with Mackie being confirmed as part of the cast alongside Benedict Cumberbatch who plays Doctor Strange, Sebastian Stan who plays Bucky Barnes etc etc.
I’m not saying he’s talking bullshit. I would not say that an actor is bullshitting in hyping up a movie. Ever. Honest.
But if it turns out he is in it, well, that’s not really the behaviour you expect of your superheroes, is it.
