After Banksy’s latest project, Dismaland, closed its doors to the public, it’s now been revealed the left over materials are going to be put to good use.
Now that the weird and wonderful dystopian theme park exhibition has run its course, Banksy has said he’s going to send all the leftover timber and fixtures to Calais, where they will be transformed into winter shelters for refugees, Konbini reports.
Banksy even released a photo of the iconic Disney tower from the exhibition superimposed on the migrant camp.
The elusive artist said in a statement:
Coming soon… Dismaland Calais.
All the timber and fixtures from Dismaland are being sent to the ‘jungle’ refugee camp near Calais to build shelters. No online tickets will be available.
The exhibition featured a migrant boat game, with mini models of refugee-laden boats swimming around a pool.
The closing ceremony of the exhibition featured performances from various artists, including De La Soul, Pussy Riot, Kate Tempest and Damon Albarn, and everyone was asked to wear a mask so Banksy could walk around unnoticed.
Well played, Banksy!
