ReutersThe city of Beirut is in mourning after at least 41 people were killed and 181 wounded in two suicide bomb attacks in a residential area of the Lebanese capital.
The bombers blew themselves up on a busy street in southern suburb of Burj al-Barajneh- a stronghold of the Shia Islamist Hezbollah movement.
ReutersTerrorist organisation Isis claimed responsibility for the deadliest bombing in the capital since the civil war ended in 1990, although there has not been any independent confirmation.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister Tammam Salam condemned the attacks as “unjustifiable” and called on his citizens to unite against “plans to create strife”.
ReutersTwo bombers carried out the suicide bomb attacks a short distance from each other at 6pm local time, whilst the body of a third would-be bomber was found nearby- killed by the second blast.
According to Reuters, Hezbollah vowed to continue its fight against “terrorists”, warning of a “long war” against its enemies.
ReutersIn recent weeks, Hezbollah has sent reinforcements to Syria in support of government offensives in northern areas held by rebel forces or IS.
On the same day another suicide attack killed 26 in Baghdad and terrorist gunmen and bombers attacked several different locations and events across Paris last night killing at least 128 people.
