A big game hunter has been killed by an elephant as he was out trying to shoot animals in a private wildlife area in Namibia, Southern Africa.
The Namibia Press Agency said the hunter, who has been identified as 46-year-old Jose Monzalvez, was killed on Saturday afternoon while out with four others.
According to The Independent, one of the elephants charged before the group were able to find a spot to aim and shoot.
Reports state Monzalvez had a hunting permit with him and his relatives have now been informed of his death.
This isn’t the first death of its kind this year – 51-year-old Theunis Botha – who was a well-known South African hunter, was crushed to death by an elephant in Zimbabwe after the animal was shot by a member of his group.
Theunis had been leading a hunting group in Gwai when they discovered a group of elephants, some of which were pregnant.
After three elephants began stampeding towards him, Theunis started firing shots, but a fourth elephant ran at the hunter and lifted him up with its trunk.
A member of the group then shot the elephant, which collapsed on top of Mr Botha, killing him in the process.
Maybe just leave the elephants alone!
