A man filmed a heart-breaking farewell to his family as he lay on the side of a road covered in blood after a horrific motorcycle accident.

Kevin Diepenbrock, 41, managed to record the video with his mobile phone after the crash near the Tennessee-North Carolina border.

Diepenbrock was riding on a separate bike to his friend Phillip Polito, when he suddenly braked. Kevin smashed into the back on his bike, with the crash sending them both off a 50ft embankment- tragically killing 29-year-old Phillip.

Covered in blood and dirt and seemingly with no help in sight, Diepenbrock didn’t want to die without saying his goodbyes. He apologised to his family for ‘being stupid’.

Kevin said:

Hey everybody, I fucked up, that’s all I can really say. At about 10.30 this morning. Been laying here ever since. About 50ft down in the ravine. I just wanted to say I love you guys. Sorry I was being stupid, but you know that’s what I do.

But his cries were finally heard when a couple pulled over to get a drink, and he was eventually airlifted to hospital a staggering 27 hours after the horror crash.

The accident left Kevin with punctured lungs, broken ribs and spinal fractures.

He told the Knoxville News Sentinel:

I don’t know how anybody could have heard me. Nobody stopped. I had moved just a little bit. I tried pulling myself over with a limb at one point, but I think at that point there was too much pain, and I passed out. I pretty much couldn’t move.

We wish Kevin all the best in his recovery.
