Black Panther’s huge success saw it pass Justice League at the box office in just four days – and it’s now set to pass $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Marvel Studios’ latest movie more than doubled the three-day opening made by DC’s Justice League with a $201.7 million start compared to $95 million made by Justice League in November last year.

Black Panther hit the $400 million mark in the US in just 10 days after dropping a narrow 47 percent from its opening weekend – and it’s not showing signs of stopping any time soon.

After yet another highly successful weekend, the film set even more box office records, raking in $704 million in it’s 13 days.

This, Forbes says, makes it ‘possible to estimate’ Black Panther will surpass $1 billion at the global box office, writing:

Black Panther will add at least an additional $125 million to its current domestic box office. That would bring the domestic cume to approximately $525+/- million.

Separately, the low-end realistic additional box office revenue the picture could add in all foreign markets is $180 million, to bring its international total to about $484+/- million.

So the total worldwide box office in this lower-end scenario would be $1.009 billion.

Based on Jack Kirby’s 1966 comic book series, Black Panther celebrates African culture, heritage and heroes with a depth and respect rarely seen in big budget Hollywood films.

Director Ryan Coogler shows his skill as he weaves a story of cultural identity and responsibility, as well as breathing life into a fictional nation plausible in the real world.

Featuring Marvel’s first ever predominantly black cast, this has also become the top-grossing film by a black director; writer and director of both Rocky reboot Creed and the critically acclaimed Fruitvale Station, Ryan Coogler.

Black Panther has also become the first Marvel movie to feature on the cover of TIME magazine.

The rave reviews were reflected in the pre-sale tickets, which outstripped Captain America: Civil War as ticketing site Fandango’s best-selling Marvel title in the first 24 hours.

It’s hardly surprising, considering Black Panther was voted as one of the year’s top two most anticipated movies, ranking second only to Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War which opens on May 4.

As well as box office success, the soundtrack has taken the number one spot on the Billboard 200 in the US.

It features 14 tracks, with rapper Kendrick Lamar the creative mastermind behind the hotly anticipated – and well received – soundtrack.

Kendrick wrote on Twitter:

Respect to all the artist/producers that allowed me to execute a sound for the soundtrack,

The concept of producing and composing a project other than my own has always been ideal. I appreciate the experience love ones. Continue to be great.

Available to listen to right now, the soundtrack includes singles such as All the Stars and King’s Dead.
