Blind Gamer Beats Ocarina Of Time After Five Years Of Trying

In an amazing feat of persistence and endurance, a blind gamer has successfully completed Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Terry Garrett – also known on YouTube as MegaTgarrett – first started his adventure to save Hyrule on May 8 2011, and finally achieved his goal on January 2 2016. Having previously mastered a slew of 2D games – including Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty – Garrett wanted to prove he was capable of beating a 3D world too.

Terry picks up on in-game sounds to find his way around, using his own stereo speaker set-up to hear things like characters walking and weapons hitting off walls. He also employs frequent save states to trial and error his way through the more tricky sections.

Naturally, some of Garrett’s more popular videos see him playing through the game’s notoriously difficult Water Temple, which many players will admit to struggling on with the use of their eyes, let alone only using sound.

Upon completing the game, Garrett stated that “It has been long in the making, but I have finally accomplished my goal.” Well done mate, here’s looking forward to you putting us all to shame with your next playthrough.
