A firm favourite in the households of 90’s kids – Andy Cunningham – who played Bodger in the absolute classic Bodger and Badger, has died aged 67.
Andy died in Brighton’s Royal Sussex County Hospital on Monday following a ‘lengthy battle with cancer’, his sister Tessa told Press Association.
The entertainer, found fame on the 1990s BBC programme, in which he played Simon Bodger – a close friend of the naughty Badger, whose endless pursuit and love of mashed potato got the pair into all sorts of trouble.
Tessa paid tribute to him, calling him ‘generous, passionate and hilarious’.
She said:
Andy lived to be loved and to make people laugh – starting with me, his little sister
He had a quicksilver brain, a rebellious attitude, boundless compassion particularly for the underdog, unstinting levels of generosity and, of course, a passion for mashed potato.
I adored him and, long before he found fame, was immensely proud to have the funniest, cleverest big brother in the universe.
The show first aired in 1989 and continued to be aired throughout the Nineties becoming a firm favourite of children’s TV.
As you can imagine, children of the 90s are devastated by the news!
Thanks for the childhood memories, Andy!
