The Nigerian based terrorist group, Boko Haram, use children to carry out one fifth of their suicide attacks, a report has revealed.

In what is definitely some of the most harrowing news of the day, it has been revealed that the group use children in more than one in five of all suicide missions, 75 per cent of which are female, according to The Independent.

Unicef’s report, Beyond Chibok, shows that the number of children involved in suicide attacks in Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger have increased from four to 44 in just 12 months.

The report also stated that since the kidnapping, 21 attacks were carried out in Cameroon involving children, and 17 in Nigeria.

The cowardly terrorists were widely publicized back in 2014 following the kidnapping of almost 300 schoolgirls in Chibok.

The kidnappings led to an international response with the hashtag #bringbackourgirls going global, prompting some of the world’s most powerful figures adopting it to share the message.

Other than drawing mass attention to the atrocity, the campaign had limited success – with 219 of the girls still missing.

In the past Amnesty International has stated that more about 2,000 boys and girls have been kidnapped by Boko Haram since 2014 – most of them held captive as cooks, sex slaves, and fighters.

I cannot begin to imagine the horrors such children are witness to every single day.
