Queen guitarist Brian May threw some serious shade at the Countryside Alliance during Thursday’s episode of Newsnight, calling them “a bunch of lying bastards”.
During a heated debate on the issue of fox hunting, May – who is also the vice president of the RSPCA – gave an impassioned response to Jim Barrington’s claim that hunting foxes is an issue of “pest control” and “wildlife management”.
May also accused David Cameron of underhandedly dismantling the fox hunting ban, describing the prime minister’s plans to scrap the limit on the number of hounds used for flushing out foxes “repeal under another name”.
Barrington, a welfare consultant for the Countryside Alliance, countered that the Conservative Party leader was simply trying to “address exemptions in the (Hunting) Act”.
May added:
There is no justification for the hunting of foxes on the grounds of control of foxes. They breed them to hunt, it’s all about people catching foxes for fun. They like causing pain and this is what Cameron is endorsing!
MPs will have a free vote next week on scrapping the limit on hounds, making it almost impossible to prosecute those involved in fox hunting.
