The man who brutally stabbed a British backpacker to death in an Australian hostel left an eerie note on Facebook moments before the attack.
The Facebook post reportedly read: “I am a victim. I feel I’m going to die soon. Whoever you are who like me, please follow me. I love everyone.”
French-Algerian Smail Ayad was reported to have developed an obsession with Mia Ayliffe-Chung, telling other guests at the hostel that they were married and in love.
Mia, 21, from Derbyshire was stabbed to death on Tuesday night. A 30-year-old British man, Tom Jackson, was injured trying to protect her, and is is still fighting for his life in hospital.
Ayad allegedly shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ before and after the murder, but according to The Guardian, detective superintendent Ray Rohweder said on Thursday there was ‘no indication whatsoever that any radicalisation or any political motives existed to cause him to attack the people that he did’.
Mia had been working as a waitress in Queensland for the last six months after heading to Indonesia to start her travels around a year ago.
Police found more evidence Ayad had become obsessed with her when searching his social media, where he’d bookmarked loads of photos of model and UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste – pictured below – who looks strikingly like Mia.
Ayad faces several charges, including one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count of serious animal cruelty and twelve counts of serious assault, The Sun reports.
The French national faces the animal cruelty charge over the wounding of a dog. The assault charges relate to serious attacks on 12 police officers following his arrest, including biting one of them.
