The British electrician jailed in Dubai after being accused of sexual assault has spoken out about the incident.
Jamie Harron, 27, was arrested after brushing past a man in bar.
Originally deemed an act of assault, Harron now claims the man was jealous that he’d been chatting to a female waitress that he had his eyes on.
Police had claimed the businessman tried to stick his hand down the man’s pants – an allegation he called ridiculous.
He told Mail Online:
The legal system in Dubai is a shambles and if this can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.
He was in there before us, and I think he was maybe trying to talk to her before, and then us two young guys come and start chatting to her and having a laugh, and he had a problem with it.
Jamie was put in a holding cell at Al Barsha jail where he shared a cell with up to 10 other men.
He slept on a threadbare mattress and couldn’t shower or brush his teeth for days.
Jamie finally arrived in Glasgow this week after being in Dubai since July.
He said of his ordeal:
I think it was a bad situation, to be honest. I didn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I still couldn’t believe it had actually happened and what it was that was going on.
Even now that I’m actually home, I still can’t believe that it was actually three and a half months.
I was in shock. I said ‘Of course I never did that. That man was fully clothed, and we were in a public bar.’ That is absolutely ridiculous.
The man who accused Jamie, Emad Tabaza, eventually dropped the charge but prosecutors went ahead with the case anyway.
