An 11-year-old boy who shot a burglar in the leg has described how the intruder ‘cried like a baby’ after he shot him with a handgun.

Chris Gaither from Talladega, Alabama, was home alone on Wednesday morning when he heard footsteps upstairs.

The young boy soon discovered that someone had broken in and intended to rob the house.

Quick thinking Chris wasn’t going to let the thief have his way though, grabbing a nearby gun and facing off with the intruder as he came down the stairs, The Telegraph reports.

The boy explained to local news broadcaster WVTM that as the would-be-thief came down he said he was ‘going to kill me’.

That’s when the boy pulled out the gun, and Chris thinks that the thief mistook the gun for a toy because he didn’t stop and kept on walking.

Unfortunately for the intruder the gun was real, very real, and as he tried to leave by the front door Chris started shooting, firing off 11 rounds before the 12th hit its target.

Chris said:

I shot through the hamper he was carrying… It was a full metal jacket bullet. It went straight through the back of his leg. He started crying like a little baby.

Local police who are investigating the incident haven’t released the name of the suspect but Gaither’s mother claims this wasn’t the first time the man had broken into their house and he’d allegedly stolen items on a previous occasion.

Chris had some advice for the injured thief as well saying: “I hope you learn your lesson coming to this house trying to steal stuff.”
