These Cali cops are really not happy about this video being used in court.
Three unidentified Santa Ana officers have filed a lawsuit to try and stop the video from being used in a court case against them.
The CCTV footage comes from a raid on a Weed Shop called Sky High Collective in May, and attorney Corey W. Glave believes it has been altered in order to make the police look bad. Which, it does, but I don’t think that’s down to the editing.
They can be seen titting about, as well as allegedly eating pot brownies. Their claim is that the video evidence should be thrown out because they didn’t know that they were being filmed, and had not given consent to be on camera…
I’m no lawyer, but I’m pretty sure that isn’t quite how it works.
The dispensary lawyer Matthew Pappas says that the police knew that there were cameras, and had switched most of them off, obviously forgetting one.
They knew they were on video… Just because they missed one camera doesn’t make it illegal.
Fair enough, they don’t want the edited highlight reel being used in court, but I don’t see how they can dismiss the unedited video footage based on the fact that the police didn’t know that they were being filmed. I’m pretty certain most people caught committing crime on camera were unaware, and would be laughed out of court if the tried to get it dismissed for that reason!
