When Canadian police officers set up an operation to catch criminals who were attacking those in wheelchairs, they could not have anticipated the response they got from the public.
Officer Mark Horsley went undercover as a man confined to a wheelchair after damage to his brain, and was alone out on the streets of a Downtown Eastside neighbourhood, and despite there being 14 attacks on people in wheelchairs since January 2014, the kindness shown to the ‘disabled man’ by the public was awe-inspiring.
The police said they wanted to catch a serious assault or robbery, but instead saw individuals offer prayers and well wishes, check on his wellbeing and even hand him money that was falling out of his bag.

He called the reactions of people ‘inspiring’ and said that numerous people went out of their way to be kind to him – and the video footage backs that up tenfold.
He claimed:
You should know, the police are watching.
But more importantly, the people of the Downtown Eastside are watching. They care. And they take care of their vulnerable people.
