Comicbook genius Stan Lee was known for having a very real presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with his numerous memorable cameos a much loved part of his superhero world.

By turns laugh-out-loud hilarious and thematically significant, keeping one eye out for the iconic comicbook writer has long been a fun part of watching any new Marvel movie.

Who could forget Lee’s oblivious music listener in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)? Or his alien barber in Thor: Ragnarok (2017)?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe boasts a number of celebrated Hollywood actors, and yet Lee was able to steal a scene over and over again, with a witty one liner or a humorously nonplussed expression to the action around him.

Lee sadly passed away in November 2018, at the age of 95. However, fans can still feel his warm, comforting presence in new superhero movie, Captain Marvel.

As a touching tribute to the legendary producer, Marvel Studios edited their opening logo fanfare in a show of respect.

As fans will be no doubt aware, the logo fanfare usually depicts a variety of Marvel’s superheroes; showing off their incredible abilities and powers.

However, for the Captain Marvel opening logo fanfare Marvel Studios replaced the superheroes with shots from Lee’s various beloved cameos, with a tear-jerking message reading, ‘Thank you Stan’.

Lee partook in over 50 Marvel cameos throughout his long and fascinating career. He may not have been able to fly or spin webs, but for his countless fans he still possessed a very rare and special brand of magic.

Those who have seen Captain Marvel have been deeply moved by this thoughtful tribute, taking to Twitter to express their own messages of gratitude.

One fan tweeted:

Everyone in my theater applauded after the Stan Lee tribute during the intro to Captain Marvel. And I mean EVERYONE. When I say that man has impacted so many people, I mean it.

Another said:

Literally cried during Stan Lee’s tribute in Captain Marvel.

Rest in peace, Stan. Your memory will live on through the world your imagination built.

Captain Marvel soared into cinemas on March 8.
