CCTV footage has been released of a suspect that police in Bangkok want to speak to about yesterday’s horrific bomb attack.

The person, wearing a yellow t-shirt and glasses, is reportedly spotted placing a bag at the scene, moments before the explosion ripped through the city – killing at least 22 people and injuring many more.

The grainy footage shows the suspect carrying a backpack through Ratchaprasong, Thailand’s most popular shopping district, before leaving the area roughly 15 minutes before the deadly explosion.

It is currently unknown who the suspect is, and so far nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Thailand’s junta leader Prayut Chan-O-Cha believes the suspect is from an ‘anti-government group based in Thailand’s north-east’.

Speaking to reporters, Prayut said: “Today there is a suspect. We are looking for this guy,” indicating the man was spotted on CCTV.

He continued: “That man was carrying a backpack and walked past the scene at the time of the incident. But we need to look at the before and after CCTV footage to see if there is a link.”

Another incident raised tensions in the city today, in which a grenade was thrown into a canal by another unidentified man. A police officer at the scene stated that if the explosive hadn’t landed in the water, injuries would have been a certainty.

There has been unrest in Thailand ever since the junta began running the show in May last year, after overthrowing the elected government.
