Alibaba, the Chinese e-commerce giant, has been easing into the sperm market to try and combat China’s rising infertility and plummeting birth rates.

Being one of the biggest business-to-customer selling sites on the net affords you with many options. One of those options is helping shift human sperm.

By putting out adverts on its site for three days, Alibaba managed to attract some 22,000 fertile men to donate sperm and potentially help China from averting a negative population crisis, palming them off with £516 for their troubles.

A number of Chinese sperm banks have been coming up short on stocks, and Alibaba put its popularity down to avoiding the embarrassment of a face-to-face consultation. Potential donors had to give go through a quick medical check before they were allowed to take part and the opportunity was open to everybody, though good looks and high intelligence were sought after characteristics. A ballsy move indeed.
