Actress Chloe Grace Moretz has apologised to fans after her new film was accused of body-shaming.

The film, along with it’s marketing, has caused a social media backlash with people asking how it even got approved in the first place.

On the film poster, Snow White is pictured with two different body types and the strapline:

What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the 7 Dwarfs not so short?

Model and body image activist, Tess Holliday, called out the campaign asking how it had been approved in the first place and asked: “Why is it ok to tell young kids being fat = ugly?”

*Puts hand up*. Me, me, pick me! IT’S NOT.

Chloe also received a heap of criticism from fans who said it wasn’t just the poster, but the film, that was inappropriate, especially considering the target audience – young, possibly impressionable, kids.

Chloe took to her Twitter account to apologise in a string of tweets to fans to explain she was ‘appalled and angry’ as everybody else.

Some fans still weren’t convinced, however…

One wrote:

It wasn’t even the marketing sis? You did audition didn’t you?

You did read the script and accepted the role without saying a word. You’re literally apologizing bc ppl are calling you out but you really don’t care or else you wouldn’t have taken the role.

Another adding:

I’m 40 and I was heartbroken to see this marketing campaign; I can’t imagine the impact to young girls.

And those criticising the film may have a point judging by the trailer:

In it, a slim Snow White is seen arriving back home with what appears to be two of the seven dwarfs ogling her as she takes off her clothes.

That is, until she takes off her red shoes, she gains weight and being lounging in her underwear, drinking and burping.

We don’t think this is the last we’ll hear of this one somehow.

Red Shoes and The 7 Dwarfs is set for release in early 2018.
