More details have emerged surrounding the tragic murder of singer Christina Grimmie who was shot dead at her concert on Friday night.

Her killer has now been named as 27-year-old Kevin Loibl, who police believe travelled across Florida from his home in St Petersburg to Orlando with the express intent of murdering the 22-year-old former The Voice contestant.

Orlando Police Chief John W. Mina revealed Loibl had made plans to travel back to his home after murdering Grimmie and had two handguns with two extra magazines of ammunition and a large hunting knife on his person.

However, after Loibl shot Christina, he was immediately tackled by her brother Mark before turning the gun on himself in the following scuffle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Destiny Rivera, 20, told the Daily Mail she watched as Lobil walked over to his victim who went to hug him before three shots rang out.

She said:

Christina was hanging out by the merchandise table, talking to fans and taking pictures. My back was to her but I kept turning to check on how long we had to meet her.

The guy in front of us was walking up to meet her. Her arms were open, waiting to greet him with a hug. Then there was a sound of three pops, like balloons.

Rivera said people had brought balloons to the show and the security guards were popping them so at first she thought nothing of it.

However, it quickly became clear something was very wrong:

I saw the barricade fall and the two people who had just met her started running away. I saw Christina’s leg fall to the side on the ground like a dead weight. I didn’t see her face.

After that Rivera said she saw Mark Grimmie jump over the merchandise table and then it was just a blur: “I turned and started running, then I heard another pop.”

She also said she had considered talking to Loibl, but he didn’t look like he wanted to be approached:

He was there by himself, looking around and moving, like he was trying to find something to do because he was on his own. He looked kind of creepy.

He seemed around our age. He had no bag with him but had on a black hat and a red and black flannel shirt. I didn’t see any weapons.

The investigation is ongoing but police say they currently have no reason to believe that Loibl had any previous contact with Christina prior to Friday night.

However, they are focusing their investigation on his mobile phone and social media records in their search for a motive.
