After debate, rumours, some dodgy suggestions and even some legal wrangles, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May finally have a name for their new Top Gear rival show.
It has finally been decided that the trio’s Amazon Prime motoring show will be called The Grand Tour, reports The Guardian.
Clarkson said:
Thing is we’ll be travelling the world hosting each episode in a different country, from a giant tent.
It’s a sort of ‘grand tour’, if you like. So we’ve decided to call it The Grand Tour.
James May, however, said he was underwhelmed by the name, adding: “I wanted to call it Nigel, or Roger. We needed a name, and they’re names.”
Richard Hammond, on the other hand, seemed more positive:
I already love camping, but this is something else. We are like our pioneering and prospecting forebears, sallying forth into a new frontier of broadcasting.
To be fair, the name does fit with the ambition to do something a bit different to Top Gear – moving further away from the traditional car show format.
The Grand Tour is set to be released this autumn, with the streaming service paying a reported £160 million for three series of the show.
The unveiling of the name comes on the same day the BBC announced the new series of Top Gear – fronted by Chris Evans – will start on Sunday May 29th – coincidence?

The reboot has been plagued by reports of production problems including allegations Evans is a bully – which he has denied.
The Grand Tour isn’t the most exciting name, but at least they couldn’t go with Gear Knobs.
