GettyColdplay are reportedly “looking at options” to save the Treehouse, a facility run by the recently collapsed children’s charity Kids Company.
The band, fronted by Chris Martin, are considering rescuing the arm of the charity, which offered education and therapeutic help to vulnerable children in north London.
Martin and his fellow band members – Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion – were big supporters of the Kids Company, donating a reported £10m to the charity. Martin’s ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, was often photographed with its flamboyant founder, Camila Batmanghelidjh.
The charity closed down on Wednesday last week amid claims of financial mismanagement and sexual abuse, and is currently under police investigation.
GettyHowever, Coldplay aren’t ready to give up on the charity just yet.
Phil Harvey, Coldplay’s co-manager, said:
We’re incredibly proud of Treehouse’s work with children in great need over the past six years. It’s very early stages, but we’re not going to give up on the centre without looking at all options for the future.
The Treehouse opened in 2009 and provided education for children who were not attending mainstream secondary schools, an after-school club for under-14s and an outreach team.
