Strap yourself in for the best news all year. After just a number of months since Eddie Murphy teased the possibility of a Coming To America sequel, the sequel has been confirmed. Prince Akeem is coming back!
The tweet made by Murphy, which has since been deleted, pictured Vanessa Bell Calloway, alongside the caption: ‘Coming To America sequel?’.
Now it feels like all of our dreams, birthdays, and Christmasses have all come at once – after the sequal was confirmed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Eddie Murphy is 100 per cent involved in the film some way or other, however as of yet it remains uncertain if he will be acting or behind the cameras.
Also revealed was that Jonathan Levine, the director of Warm Bodies and 50/50, is set to direct the sequel, while Black-ish creator Kenya Barris is on board to write the script. Kevin Misher will be producing the follow up and he is also believed to be starring in the movie too.
As if this all couldn’t get any better – the original writers from the first film, David Sheffield and Barry W. Blaustein were brought back by Paramount to write the second installment.
If you don’t know who Sheffield and Blaustein are then allow me to remind you of some of the quotes which were penned by the pair in the original. Ahem: ‘If loving the Lord is wrong, then I don’t wanna be right!’, ‘Yes, yes f*ck you too’, and of course ‘Hey Stu, your rent’s due, motherf*cker!’.
In the hilarious cult classic original, which was released almost 30 years ago, Murphy starred as the wealthy African Prince, Akeem Joffer, who comes to America from the fictional country of Zamunda, fleeing an arranged marriage and looking for the woman of his dreams.
However – of course things don’t quite go to plan.
But don’t forget, Coming To America featured not only some absolute classic lines but also one of the greatest fictional bands of all time: Sexual Chocolate.
If only the crowd enjoyed them as much as I did.
At the minute Coming To America 2 does not have a release date but hey ho, just knowing there’s a sequel on the way at all is beautiful news.
