In the video, shot on a phone, a large police officer is seen hitting the terrified teenager with a baton, as he cowers in a flowerbed.
And then backup arrives. Four other officers appear, throw the young black man to the pavement and arrest him. In case that wasn’t enough, four more officers then show up to help.
Nine. Nine fairly large officers to deal with one skinny teenager. Must have been a pretty dangerous suspect to warrant that level of violence, and number of officers? Nope. This kid was stopped for jaywalking.
Fucking jaywalking. Crossing the street at an undesignated area.
Witnesses to the incident, in Stockton, California, said he was trying to catch a bus, and one can be heard saying to the officers: “It’s a fucking kid! Get off him! He’s been jaywalking! Leave him alone, he didn’t do anything wrong!”
