Drea Rose Laguillo and her fiance Sean Matteson were at Taft Point on Sunday when just after 5pm, unbeknownst to either of them, they captured the final image of Meenakshi Moorthy before she and Vishnu Viswanath died in the freak accident.
Laguillo had shared a story about the couple’s death to her Facebook on Monday and revealed that she had a rough idea of when the pair likely went over the edge of the 800-foot cliff as she was the one who knew her final whereabouts.
It shows the pink-haired Moorthy, 30, in the background of the couple’s photo at Taft Point.
What is chillingly clear is how close Moorthy and Viswanath, 29, were to the edge of the cliff.
Viswanath’s brother, Jishnu Viswanath, said Vishnu Viswanath and Moorthy had set up their tripod near the edge when they fell to their deaths.
The next morning, visitors clocked the camera and alerted rangers, who ‘used high-powered binoculars to find them and used helicopters to airlift the bodies,’ he said.
The funeral will be going ahead in the US since tragically the bodies were not in a condition to be flown back to their native India.
Vishnu and Moorthy were in the States to study engineering, but entertained a blog on the side called Holidays and Happily Ever Afters.
They would use the platform to share photos from their adventures, including a post from a trip to the Grand Canyon just months before their demise, MailOnline reports.
Moothy wrote at the time:
A lot of us including yours truly is a fan of daredevilry attempts of standing at the edge of cliffs and skyscrapers, but did you know that wind gusts can be FATAL??? Is our life just worth one photo?
They had previously been students at the College of Engineering, Chengannur, in India.

The couple met in 2009, marrying five years later.
In 2018 alone, they to travelled to Vermont, Arizona, New Mexico, San Francisco, New Orleans, Brooklyn, Big Sur, Baltimore, Manhattan, Holland and India.
