Humberside PoliceA dad from Hull who put a burglar in prison after a break in at his home may now face charges.
The unnamed man allegedly injured 42-year-old Michael Carr (pictured above) at the East Hull property in the early hours of December 27.
The prosecutor in the case has advised how the householder is suspected of assaulting Carr and although ‘a file is being prepared’, it’s still uncertain whether or not he’s been charged.
Wikimedia CommonsThe house was being occupied by the unidentified male, along with his female partner and baby daughter, who were sleeping upstairs at the time of the burglary before the woman heard ‘the sound of banging’, reports the Mirror.
According to Prosecutor Cathrine Kioko-Gilligan, the partner initially attributed this noise to her neighbours. However, she ‘was alarmed to hear the living room door creak’ as well as the ‘front door banging open.’
Miss Kioko-Gilligan told the court how the unnamed woman ‘rushed to the top of the stairs, where she was able to see a person leaving her property with a black bag slung over his shoulder.’
She roused her partner from his sleep, and he proceeded to chase the intruder while she contacted the police.

When the male householder returned to the property, he had with him a black bag containing their stolen playstation.
The couple also found a Samsung 4 mobile phone, jewellery, money, a wallet, a purse and a heart-shaped box.

According to the Hull Daily Mail, the male householder exited the property once more, while his mother came over to offer assistance. When he didn’t return, the mother became concerned and went out searching for him.
According to Miss Kioko-Gilligan, it was at this point the mother saw ‘an ambulance and a person being attended to’, and that was the defendant. Carr was then taken to hospital in an ambulance.
Reading a victim statement by the female householder, Miss Kioko-Gilligan explained how she’s now ‘fearful about being home alone’ as well as being ‘concerned for the safety of her daughter, and that gives her nightmares.’

Mitigating lawyer Dale Brook told the court:
It’s clear he was badly beaten and I have no doubt many would think that was richly deserved, but it doesn’t detract from the fact that was itself a form of punishment.
He had to be taken in an ambulance to hospital and is described as being in not a good way by the police officers when they found him.
At the time of sentencing, Carr had 80 previous offences on his record, however, he’d not committed any offences between the 2006 and 2016. Mr Brook explained how this decade coincided with Carr being clean of drugs.
However, his mother’s death had led him to return to his old habits.

While sentencing Carr, Judge Simon Jack stated:
This is a sad story – for the occupier of that house, the lady woken up in the small hours of the morning by somebody, namely you, who had entered her home with the intention to steal.
And it’s sad for you in that you had managed to break a drug-habit and stay out of trouble for ten years, and for things to get worse again when your mother died and other events.
Carr is now being treated in a prison recovery wing.
Although he initially denied the crime, he’s since pled guilty to burglary and has been given a one year prison sentence.
So the low life got off with it and the dad got a heavy fine and community service.
