She shot to fame through her badass character ‘Rey’ in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and now it’s rumoured that Daisy Ridley will be portraying yet another powerful heroine: Lara Croft.
The brit newcomer is one of a number of actresses being considered for the Tomb Raider reboot, Deadline reports. And while conversations have taken place, it’s still pretty early in the making, so there have been no official offers yet by Warner Bros and MGM, who are partnering to produce the film. But there are definitely rumours.
The new adaptation is rumoured to take creative guidance from the 2013 video game series, which sees a younger Lara Croft on her first adventures as an archaeology student, and the 2015 follow-up Rise Of The Tomb Raider. The film will follow Brit archaeologist Lara Croft kicking ass and travelling the globe – very similar to Indiana Jones, which director Roar Uthaug says was an influence when making the film.
He told IGN: “Raiders of the Lost Ark was one of my favorite films growing up, so it’s definitely a dream to work in that kind of genre.”
Ridley is currently in the middle of production for Star Wars: Episode VIII, with Star Wars: Episode IX set to film shortly after, so her timetable for another film could be slim.
Let’s hope she makes some time for Tomb Raider, because she’d be one kick-ass Lara Croft.
