Back in May we reported that Simon Pegg had let it slip that Daniel Craig had bagged a cameo role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The rumours have now been, sort of, confirmed and according to The Sun, the 47-year-old Jams Bond actor plays Stormtrooper JB – 007 – see what they did there – who features in a prominent moment speaking four lines of dialogue in the seventh film in the sci-fi franchise.
Craig is said to appear in a short scene opposite Daisy Ridley’s character Rey, who mind controls Stormtrooper JB – 007 before they become involved in a hilarious exchange.
A source told The Sun:
It was just going to be a blink and you’ll miss it cameo but in the end he’s in a very memorable scene. The Star Wars cast and crew want to keep the mystery up though and don’t want to confirm on record that it is him in the mind control scene. Maybe it’s so Stormtrooper JB-007 can pop back for the sequels?
When the rumours originally began circulating Craig shot them down but despite his denials a spokesperson associated with Disney, the studio that astutely purchased George Lucas’s Lucasfilm company, told the Daily Mail: “You’re close to the truth. Nothing can be said on the record, because it will be denied.”
The spokesperson said Craig was filming the latest James Bond film Spectre at Pinewood studios in Buckinghamshire when he got talking to Star Wars director J.J. Abrams and they apparently hatched the cameo plot together. “I don’t know which scene it is but yes, it does involve Daniel playing a stormtrooper, because they wear helmets and for the most part they’re anonymous,” said the source.
However another source, in a separate confirmation, told a group of film-makers that it was indeed Craig who shot the star cameo moment. It’s all so mysterious.
