The cast of Danny Boyle’s cult classic Trainspotting are set to reunite as the director confirms his next project will be a sequel.

While promoting his latest movie’Steve Jobs’, about the Apple co-founder, Boyle announced that he would be making the sequel to tie in with the 20th anniversary of the first film, and that all the original cast will be involved.

He said:

All the four main actors want to come back and do it.

Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together, which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series.

It’s been in the pipeline for a little while, as two years ago Boyle revealed that John Hodge, who wrote the script of the original, was working o writing the followup, based loosely on Irvine Welsh’s sequel book ‘Porno’.

In the book, Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) returns to open a pub, and is involved in making underground porn films, while Renton (Ewan McGregor) is still sober and living in Amsterdam.

I don’t know how closely it will folow the book, but it’s a film I’m massively looking forward to. Trainspotting is one of the most iconic British films of all time, and while it is grim and disgusting in parts, it’s also extremely funny, brilliantly made and brilliantly acted.

More of the same please!
