The 40-year-old has already branched out into everything from modelling and fragrances, to charity work and numerous endorsements, but now he wants to be a hit on the big screen as well.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star previously said he had no interest in “Hollywood glitz” but apparently he’s had a change of heart, probably after hanging out with the likes of Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington in Los Angeles.

Despite his stardom, Beckham isn’t expecting an easy ride of it and says he is braced for the inevitable criticism when he makes the jump to film.

Speaking to The Times, he said:

I am very aware that many sportsmen and other celebrities have turned their hand to acting and failed. I know that it is a tough profession, where you need a huge amount of skill and discipline, and I wouldn’t want to push myself forward too soon, without learning more about it, and doing a lot more practice.

But what I have done so far, I have loved. I can deal with most things. I am a well-known person, so I have got used to criticism.

Becks is already set to appear in a speaking role in Guy Ritchie’s next movie Knights of the Roundtable, due to be released next year.

Hearing old Golden Balls’ squeaky voice on the big screen is an interesting proposition. We’re not sure if he’ll be as threatening as fellow former footballer Vinnie Jones is in his action roles but, given that Beckham has found success everywhere he’s gone, we expect he’ll be a hit in Hollywood too!
