For me, it was The Little Mermaid, with Ariel’s siren song and mystical underwater kingdom transporting me completely from the dark green, patterned carpet of my family’s nineties living room.

I adored everything about Ariel, from her vivacious red hair to her restless, adventurous spirit, not to mention her supportive gaggle of under-the-sea friends. Seriously, which sea witch do I need to consult to get a wing man like Sebastian?

Looking back, it probably wasn’t the best message to send to young kids that a lad you’ve just spotted on a boat is worth giving up your vocal chords and family for. But hey – spoiler alert – it all works out swimmingly in the end for our determined mermaid princess.

I’m, erm, nearly as old as the 30-year-old mermaid-out-of-water movie, but I still love revisiting old Disney classics, which feel as reliably cosy as a good brew from your favorite mug.

The compelling cocktail of singalong soundtracks, romance and nostalgia is perfect for those evenings where you need to shut out the grayer realities of adulthood and pretend you will one day stumble across an enchanted castle full of singing candlesticks.

Sadly, most of my Disney films take the form of well-worn VHS tapes, which I have admittedly forgotten how to use. I was therefore delighted to hear about Disney Plus, an upcoming streaming service which will soon contain all your Disney favorites.

As reported by Polygon, Disney CEO Bob Iger has announced the forthcoming Disney+ streaming service will soon include the ‘entire Disney motion picture library’:

The service, which I mentioned earlier is going to launch later in the year, is going to combine what we call library product, movies, and television, with a lot of original product as well, movies and television.

And at some point fairly soon after launch it will house the entire Disney motion picture library, so the movies that you speak of that traditionally have been kept in a vault and brought out basically every few years will be on the service,

And then, of course, we’re producing a number of original movies and original television shows as well that will be Disney-branded.

No exact date has been given in regards to when Disney Plus will launch, but Iger has confirmed it will launch later this year.

It is also anticipated to be a little cheaper than competitor, Netflix, which is pleasant news for those of us without a castle to sleep in for one hundred years.

I for one feel as excited as Cinderella watching a pumpkin transform into a glittering crystal coach.
