Details surrounding the death of international house DJ, Avicii, have been revealed.
The Swedish DJ, whose real name was Tim Bergling and gained international fame for songs such as Hey Brother, The Nights and You Make Me, was found dead in Muscat, Oman on Friday, April 20. His family have ‘confirmed’ the international DJ took his own life.
Avicii was just 28 years old when the sad news of his death was announced by his representatives.
His family released a statement today saying:
Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress.
When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music.
He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness.
He could not go on any longer.
The statement continued:
He wanted to find peace. Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight.
Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive.
We love you,
Your family.
An official announcement was made after his body was found last Friday, which read:
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii.
He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th.
The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.
In 2016 Avicii announced he would be retiring from live performances, stating the decision was down to health reasons.
According to Variety, he had been suffering from severe health problems including acute pancreatitis, which was alleged to have been caused by excessive drinking.
It is also reported that the star had undergone surgery to have both his gallbladder and appendix removed.
Following his decision to quit touring in 2016, he announced on his website:
WE ALL REACH A POINT IN OUR LIVES AND CAREERS WHERE WE UNDERSTAND WHAT MATTERS THE MOST TO US.
For me it’s creating music. That is what I live for, what I feel I was born to do.
Last year I quit performing live, and many of you thought that was it. But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music. Instead, I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio.
The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new.
Hope you´ll enjoy it as much as I do.
Avicii had fans from all over the world and was one of the most popular DJs of all time. His massive hit Wake Me Up with Aloe Blacc is one of his most played songs.
