FacebookTransgender actress and comedian Bethany Black has been cast in the upcoming ninth series of Doctor Who.
The 36-year-old will make a guest appearance on the show this year, although she won’t be playing a transgender character.
Black shared the news on her Facebook page and she seems pretty thrilled to get the chance to be a part of one of her favourite TV shows!
She even threw a bit of shade at the Daily Mail, for good measure, joking, “Now to sit back and wait until The Mail realises the BBC have cast an open trans lesbian in a family show”.

She wrote:
It is genuinely the greatest job I could ever have imagined getting. Everything about it is magical. I’m enjoying every day of filming and cherishing it, because you never know if you’ll ever get to do anything like this again. I only hope that I do the role and the show justice, and that you all enjoy it. For me it’s the gig of a lifetime.
Black previously appeared in former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies’ Channel 4 series’ Tofu, Cucumber and Banana.
The new series of Doctor Who returns to BBC One on September 19, with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman set to reprise their roles. Reece Shearsmith, Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams, Michelle Gomez, Rufus Hound and Rebecca Front are also reportedly guest starring in the new series.
