A dog that was left for dead is reported to have walked 200 miles to find the Russian woman who nursed her back to health.

Shavi was by the side of the road after a suspected hit-and-run accident, in southern Russia’s Rostov Oblast region last winter.

She had been living as a stray, wondering the streets when the driver hit her and then just drove away from the incident, Russian media reported.

They left the dog to die in agony, with two broken legs, where she was shivering and running the risk of dying in the freezings temperatures.

Fortunately for Shavi two passersby saw the helpless canine and took her to the vet, before launching an online appeal for someone who could take her of their hands once she had fully recovered.

It was reported that Nina Baranovskaya, 26, was the only person who replied to the appeal and picked up Shavi as soon as she had an operation on her broken legs- taking her back to her flat in Rostov-on-Don.

She then helped the dog learn to walk again, teaching her basic commands and playing with her every day. However, Shavi needed a lot of love and care after attack. She needed nappies and comforting whenever she saw cars in the street.

Sadly, Nina couldn’t continue looking after her in the longer term. So she ended up shipping her off to another loving home, with her friends 185 miles away.

However, a matter of days later Shavi went missing and Nina’s friends called her in a panic. Two weeks later she was still nowhere to be seen and Nina was pretty worried- though she didn’t need to be.

As she walked down the road last week, she felt her beloved dog brush up against her leg. It turned out she had walked almost 200 miles in freezing conditions and unfamiliar terrain back to Rostov. Prompting her owner to burst into tears, understandably.

Experts think it must have taken more than a week to make the trek, the Komsomolskaya Pravda reported. Incredible. To make things even better, she’s now looking for a bigger flat so they can stay together.

I couldn’t imagine a cat doing this…
