Donald Trump has gone and done it, he’s managed to cause even more offence. You could say he’s trumped himself.
At a town hall event in New Hampshire this Thursday, Trump fielded questions from the audience, Vox reports.
One man stood up and showed the world he was a slightly deluded racist, claiming Obama was a Muslim, and not even American, before going on to ask the presidential hopeful what he was going to do about Muslims – who are apparently setting up training camps ‘where they want to kill us’.
Trump responds rather calmly to his claims, and the exchange went like this:
MAN IN AUDIENCE:
We have a problem in this country, it’s called Muslims. We know our current president is one. You know he’s not even an American. Birth certificate, man!
DONALD TRUMP:
We need this question!
MAN IN AUDIENCE:
But anyway, we have training camps growing where they want to kill us. That’s my question: when can we get rid of ’em?
DONALD TRUMP:
We’re gonna be looking at a lot of different things. And you know that a lot of people are saying that, and a lot of people are saying that bad things are happening out there. We’re going to be looking at that and plenty of other things.
When pressed by journalists, his team responded with:
Asked for more on Muslim q answer, Trump camp sends from him: "Christians need support in this country. Their religious liberty is at stake"

Trump camp: "Mr. Trump was referring to the need to protect Christians religious liberties as his previous statement says and nothing more."

The comments are particularly disturbing coming in the wake of 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed’s arrest for bringing a clock – mistaken for a bomb – into school. The incident has highlighted the rampant Islamophobia in American society.
Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric will only aggravate an already tense situation, and gives a fairly chilling glimpse of what President Trump’s America might look like, were he to win.
