You probably know Donald Trump as the businessman turned Republican presidential hopeful, who is busy making downright offensive comments about everyone from Muslims, to Mexicans, to women, to people with disabilities.
You’d probably be forgiven then, for thinking that ol’ Trumpy isn’t exactly bringing peace and harmony to the U.S. as much as he is stoking the flames of controversy and hatred.
But, in quite the turn up for the books, it’s now been revealed that the toupée wearing tycoon has reportedly made it onto the list of nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize, according to the Independent.
That’s right, apparently we’re counting Donald Trump alongside the likes of Pope Francis, German chancellor Angela Merkel, and a campaigner for ISIS rape survivors.
Kristian Berg Harpviken, a Nobel watcher and head of the Peace Research Institute in Oslo, told Reuters the NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden has also been tipped for an award, alongside Colombian peace negotiators, U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and Ali Akbar Salehi, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation.
In fairness, according to the Associated Press, thousands of people are eligible to submit nominations for the Peace Prize and the committee typically ends up with a total of more than 200 nominations.
According to Harpviken, the Trump nomination was submitted by an unidentified person in the U.S., who proposed Trump for “his vigorous peace through strength ideology, used as a threat weapon of deterrence against radical Islam, Isis, nuclear Iran and Communist China”.
Unbelievable.
Okay, so Trump has little to no chance of winning but the nomination alone is a bit troubling, to be honest.
