Donald Trump’s bid to become President of the US has taken another unsurprisingly prejudiced twist as he has declared he wants to close the country’s borders to Muslims.
Following the San Bernardino attack Trump said that he believes police should not be afraid to racially profile citizens.
He said to CBS:
I think there can be profiling…A lot of people are dead right now … everybody wants to be politically correct, and that’s part of the problem that we have with our country.”
He added:
You have people that have to be tracked. If they’re Muslims, they’re Muslims.”
And if his position weren’t already clear enough it was certainly clarified in a statement released on Monday.
So in order to make America ‘great again’ it needs to take a gigantic leap backwards and treat everyone who is not a white christian as suspicious?
The statistics his argument is based on has come in for criticism also as the Center For Security, who conducted the polling of American Muslims, has been accused of spreading conspiracy theories.
What remains to be seen is whether nationality has any part to play in how such a policy would be implemented. Would American Muslims be denied entry to their home if they had left the country?
Compounding the impracticality of this nonsense proposal, when asked how immigration officials could identify the religion of those entering the country a Trump spokesperson told the AP:
Because I am so politically correct, I would never be the one to say. You figure it out!”
Yes every nation should be on alert at present to ensure the protection of innocent civilians, no institutional prejudice should not be tolerated or purposefully introduced.
