President Donald Trump’s unwavering support for the Second Amendment is evident in his response to the merciless mass shooting in Texas yesterday.
Devin Patrick Kelley, 26, who opened fire and killed at least 27 people at a church in Texas during a Sunday service, was described as ‘creepy’, ‘crazy’ and ‘weird’.
In a press conference in Tokyo, the US president maintained the mass shooting is ‘not a guns situation’, reports the Independent.
Donald Trump said:
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families of today’s horrible and murderous attack. This act of evil occurred as the victims and their families were in their sacred place of worship.
We have a lot of mental health problems in our country, as do other countries. But this isn’t a guns situation.
Fortunately somebody else had a gun that was shooting in the opposite direction.
This is a mental health problem at the highest level. It’s a very, very sad event.
The two men who faced the shooter are local plumber Stephen Willeford, 55, and Johnnie Langendorff.
Willeford, a neighbour of the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs and a keen biker, ‘grabbed his rifle and engaged the suspect’.
Willeford, who has no military experience, was described by a local as ‘an excellent shot’ and when he came face to face with Kelley, he shot in between his body armor without hesitation.
Langendorff was driving home when he changed course to the scene of the shooting where Willeford quickly briefed him and they went in pursuit of Kelley’s vehicle.
Langendorff reported driving at 95mph while on the phone to dispatch while Willeford kept his rifle trained on the gunman’s car.
In a Facebook post, Langendorff’s girlfriend Summer Caddell wrote:
As many have already heard but where I live in Sutherland Springs there was a mass shooting at the local church this morning.
My boyfriend Johnnie Langendorff was on his way home to me as all of the shooting was happening.
He made a heroic move as this was going Down, him and the neighbor that returned fire jumped in my boyfriend’s truck and they chased that sick b*stard down in pursuit until the cops could catch up.
He was able to run the shooter off of the road on 539!
Johnnie is safe as the shooter was shot dead within feet from him!

Police confirmed that at least 27 were killed, including the shooter, but the death toll is expected to rise after many others were injured.
Our thoughts are with those involved.
