Donald Trump has once again showed his ‘inexperience’ as a world leader after he delivered a crass message to the family of a solider who was killed in action.
For a man who seems to want to ‘Make America Great Again’ he sure is doing a questionable job.
In between defending neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, criticising black athletes for protesting police brutality and trivialising the disasters in territories he’s responsible for (Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands), you’d think he’d at least show a bit of decorum towards the military men and women who have given their lives for their country.
Wrong! Of course he wouldn’t, this is Donald Trump we’re talking about after all.
Serving in the military and laying down your life in service of your country is perhaps as patriotic as you can get, something even Captain America would approve of – yes I’m well aware he’s a fictional character.
However it doesn’t seem to register into the mindset of Trump – a man who has been blasted a draft dodger – but the least you’d expect him to do is to offer some form of genuine condolence and empathy to the family of Sgt. La David Johnson, who was killed in action during an operation in Niger.
However according to Uproxx, Rep. Frederica Wilson, Trump told his wife, who is expecting their third child:
He knew what he signed up for … But when it happens it hurts anyway.

Wow, way to show your gratitude, eh?
Wilson commented President’s Trump’s condolences were:
… so insensitive. He should have not have said that. He shouldn’t have said it.
Earlier this week, the POTUS discussed his ‘special care’ when speaking to grieving families of those who serve in the US Army.
He said:
President Obama I think probably did sometimes, and maybe sometimes he didn’t. I don’t know? That’s what I was told. All I can do — all I can do is ask my generals. Other presidents did not call. They’d write letters.
And some presidents didn’t do anything. But I like the combination of — I like, when I can, the combination of a call and also a letter.
However one person on Twitter who’s brother was killed in action during the Bush administration called him out, writing:
@realDonaldTrump When my brother was killed, Pres Bush listened while I screamed at him & then held me as I sobbed, you fat f*cking liar.
This isn’t the first time Trump has offended those serving in the US military – during his election campaign he insulted the family of a son who was awarded with a posthumous Gold Star medal.
He also mocked Senator John McCain, who served and was captured in Vietnam, claiming he was not a hero, because he was ‘captured’.
This year Trump also signed a legislation forbidding those who identify as transgender from serving in the military.
