In a horrific display of entitlement, a drunk driver told police she shouldn’t be arrested because she’s a ‘thoroughbred, clean white girl’, according to a report.
Lauren Elizabeth Cutshaw was pulled over in South Carolina, US, for racing through a four-way stop sign at 60mph because she was drunk.
The intoxicated woman was stopped by the police at around 1:45 am on Saturday (August 4) for traveling more than 30mph over the speed limit and ignoring the stop sign.
Police noted the driver’s eyes were ‘bloodshot’, she was ‘slurring her words’, and her car ‘smelled of alcohol’. The woman then began to come up with excuses for herself in an apparent bid to get out of the trouble she was in.
The 32-year-old estate agent claimed she’d had just two glasses of wine, but when asked how much she filled the glasses, she told the police ‘I mean I was celebrating my birthday’ – as if that’s an reason to get behind the wheel drunk.
Not stopping there, the drunk driver continued to reel off defences that rather than help her, only served to make her seem even more thoughtless and inconsiderate.
Cutshaw explained that she’d had perfect grades throughout school, been a cheerleader, was part of a sorority, and graduated from a ‘highly accredited university’.
She’d fit well in an American-teen drama about drunk driving.
According to the police report of the incident obtained by The Island Packet, the woman went on to say that she was a ‘very clean, thoroughbred, white girl’.
Asking her to expand on what exactly she meant by that, Cutshaw said ‘You’re a cop, you should know what that means’.
Of course, the statement she made about herself had no effect whatsoever on her arrest.
According to the NY Post, the drunk driver was arrested on charges of speeding, disregarding a stop sign, simple possession of marijuana, driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The police commented on the ridiculousness of the statement about her ethnicity, though they did imply that she said it because she was drunk – rather than just because she was a self-righteous, arrogant person with a false sense of entitlement.
They said:
Making statements such as these as a means to justify not being arrested are unusual in my experience as a law enforcement officer and I believe further demonstrate the suspect’s level of intoxication.
Cutshaw failed sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of 0.18 – more than twice the legal limit which is 0.08 in South Carolina.
She was put into Beaufort County Detention Center, but the Post report that she was out of custody by Tuesday.
According to the driver’s LinkedIn page, Cutshaw was hired in June to work at Engel & Volkers Hilton Head in Bluffton as a real estate adviser.
However, as of Tuesday afternoon, her name was reportedly no longer listed on the company’s website, suggesting her stint behind the wheel while intoxicated may have cost the woman her job.
