Putting the more recent Duke Nukem games firmly to the back of our minds, maybe we can get excited about the newly announced Duke Nukem 3D Anniversary Edition for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Fingers crossed.
Gearbox Software announced the game at a PAX West panel this weekend and explained how the 20th Anniversary Edition will carry a brand new episode, eight new levels – all designed by the original DN3D staff – and the standard upgrade in graphics.
If you’re a purist, you can choose to play the game with the 1996 graphics or with the overhauled ones as you see fit. The game will also feature a brand new score written by the original sound designer, new Duke Nukem put downs read by original voice actor Jon St. John and in-game commentary from the developer. That’s a hell of a lot of content.
Gearbox President Randy Pitchford said:
Making it possible for Allen, Richard, Lee, and Jon to all come back together 20 years later to bring a whole new episode to the classic game is just one of those rare and incredible things that I hope will bring joy and happiness to hardcore video game fans new and old.
You can get reacquainted with the Duke when he hits PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC on October 11 for $20 or around £15.
