Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been knocked off the top spot as highest paid male actor, according to Forbes magazine.

Forbes published its annual list of top-paid male and female actors and it came as a shock to some as it was revealed Mark Wahlberg had taken the top spot, earning an estimated $68 million last year.

But the list has sparked outrage amidst the gender pay gap row, as it shows Wahlberg earned $42 million more than the highest paid female actor, Emma Stone.

Wahlberg’s earnings have come from movies Daddy’s Home 2 and Transformers: The Last Knight, according to the Forbes rankings, and knocked 2016’s top paid actor, Dwayne Johnson, into second place, with estimated earnings of $65 million.

This year, newcomers to the top-paid male actors list include Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Gosling, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo.
