The Mexican crime lord Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán has told his wife that he’s never heard of the woman claiming to be his long lost daughter.

Rosa Isela Guzmán Ortiz, 39, who lives in California, claims that the drugs kingpin is her dad and says he crossed the border into the U.S. twice to visit his family while on the run, the Daily Mail reports.

But her claims have now been called into question by the gang-lord’s wife Emma Coronel, who explained she’d spoken to her husband in jail and that he’d not confirmed the allegations.

Coronel said:

My husband told me that he had never heard of this woman before she sent him letters telling him that her mother had claimed he was the father. He had never heard of her before, and out of courtesy he did not want to reject the suggestion.

However, she admitted that her family were shocked when Ortiz took this as confirmation that she was El Chapo’s daughters, and started claiming to have knowledge of his affairs.

Coronel said that both her husband and his sister had never heard of the woman’s mother – called Maria Luisa – with whom he is alleged to have had the affair.

She added:

If there is a birth certificate that backs up these claims, then we will look at it, and if necessary we can do a DNA test. But in the meantime, I would invite her not to get involved. The situation is difficult enough already and delicate for the family and we certainly don’t need outsiders wading in.

Rosa Isela Guzmán said Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, 58, entered the U.S. last year, shortly after his notorious meeting with actor Sean Penn, to visit relatives and see her five-bedroom house, which he reportedly bought for her and her four children.

Guzmán has so far escaped twice from maximum-security prisons and is now hoping to be extradited to the United States in the hopes of negotiating a ‘relatively reasonable’ sentence in a medium-security prison.
