Emilia Clarke posts Game of Thrones tributeHBO

‘And now our watch has ended.’

It’s emotional times for both the fans – and the cast – of HBO’s Game of Thrones, as the final ever episode is hours away from airing.

Despite the controversy of the events that have so far unfolded in season eight, as TV shows go GoT is up there with some of the best that I’ve ever seen.

The writing, performances and cinematography have wowed audiences since the show first premiered back in 2011.

But most of all, we’ve fallen head over heels in love with the characters we’ve met over the seasons – and so have the actors who play them.

HBO

Emilia Clarke, who has brilliantly portrayed Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons (we had to get it in one last time) – has shared some parting words with the shows loyal fans.

In an emotional Instagram post, Clark shared a photo of the cast and crew, in costume and on set – alongside several other images of the show’s cast – and of her characters iconic blonde wig.

The 32-year-old actress thanking the shows ‘magical fans’ for their unwavering support, sharing:

Finding the words to write this post has left me overwhelmed with how much I want to say but how small words feel in comparison to what this show and Dany have meant to me.

The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life. This woman has taken up the whole of my heart. I’ve sweated in the blaze of dragon fire, shed many tears at those who left our family early, and wrung my brain dry trying to do Khaleesi and the masterful words, actions (and names) I was given, justice.

Game of Thrones has shaped me as a woman, as an actor and as a human being. I just wish my darling dad was here now to see how far we’ve flown.

But to you, dear kind magical fans, I owe you so much thanks, for your steady gaze at what we’ve made and what I’ve done with a character that was already in the hearts of many before I slipped on the platinum wig of dreams. Without you, there is no us.

And now our watch has ended.

Just 21 years old when she landed the role, the actress emotionally says goodbye to Daenerys, while also expressing her wish that her father – who passed away in 2016 from cancer – could have seen the hard work gone into the final episodes.

Signing off the post with an iconic reference to the Night’s Watch vows, Clarke ended her post with ‘And now our watch has ended.’ A line heard several times throughout the shows run, including when Jon Show left his position of command. Pass me the tissues.

The final ever episode airs on Monday at 2am and 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
