Staff and pupils at one school in New Zealand performed an incredible tribute to a former teacher who had passed away, recreating the Haka dance.
The traditional Maori war dance, which everyone recognises from the national team’s rugby matches, was re-enacted by the entire school, with the physical education teacher having worked at the school for nearly 30 years, eventually teaching maths as well.
Dawson Tamatea taught at Palmerston Noth Boys’ High School, and was a loved and respected member of staff, with the dance being done as his hearse carried the coffin towards the school hall, where the funeral was held.

The funeral was also streamed online, with thousands of people lining the streets and then attending the service for the respected teacher, who had worked at the school since 1986.
