The Mirror Exactly fourteen years after the event, Entourage star Adrian Grenier, took to Instagram to commemorate the victims of the attack on the former World Trade Centre, New York.
He also took the opportunity to remember the innocent lives lost in the subsequent US invasion of Iraq.
The post has now been deleted but it originally read:
R.I.P. the 2,996 Americans who died in 9/11. R.I.P. the 1,455,590 innocent Iraqis who died during the U.S. invasion for something they didn’t do.
It has been reported that the actor deleted the post after a social media backlash from people who felt that it was an inappropriate day to remember the deaths of Iraqis.
One Twitter user branded him ‘classless’, adding that ‘today was not the day to post this’. Another user, equally as furious over the comments, said ‘that sure was a slap in the face at the 9/11 victims! But when your [sic] a second tier actor, it’s I need attention time’.
Carbonated.tvOthers complained that the message had been removed…
“Nice job coward. Real conviction you have, deleting your post and all. #911Anniversary,” one tweet argued.
However, some fans supported him. One Twitter user wrote: ‘@adriangrenier you’re getting a lot of ridiculous backlash over your tribute, but your heart was in the right place and it’s the truth #love.’
