‘Explosive Device’ Blast Injures Dozens In New York City

An ‘explosive device’ has gone off in Manhattan, New York City, injuring dozens of people.

The ‘deafening’ blast, which occurred in the Chelsea district of Manhattan, took place at around nine o’clock local time, reports the BBC.

It has been confirmed by the New York Fire Department that at least 29 people have been injured.

Though the cause of the explosion has been unveiled as an ‘explosive device’, which appeared to be a pressure cooker connected with a phone, the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

There are rumours that the explosion could be connected to the pipe bomb which was found in New Jersey yesterday just before a charity race was about to begin.

Both US presidential hopefuls have had their say on the blast, and people have accused Donald Trump of ‘inciting fear’ by commenting on the explosion being a ‘bomb’ before it had even been confirmed.

He said at a rally in Colorado Springs:

Just before I got off the plane, a bomb went off in New York and nobody knows exactly what’s going on, but, boy we are really in a time. We better get very tough, folks.

It’s a terrible thing that’s going on in our world and in our country and we are going to get tough and smart and vigilant. We’ll see what it is. We’ll see what it is.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton was more reserved with her comments, saying that the nation needs to support the emergency workers, pray for the victims and “let the investigation unfold.”
