When Tristan Murrin and his mother left their Virginia house on Thursday night, everything appeared normal. Upon returning, their home looked more like the set from a horror film.
While the family was out, their beloved dog Oden had protected their Richmond residence from an unwelcome intruder, in a seemingly violent scuffle that left the house covered in blood splatters.
You can watch footage of the scene Tristan was greeted with in this WRIC report:

When Tristan arrived home to see the otherwise docile German Shepherd waiting on the porch, he knew something was up. Upon entering, Tristan and his mum were met with the scene of a recent alteration between Oden and the intruder, which left the white walls washed with blood.
Murrin said nothing was stolen from the home, and the intruder was no longer inside by the time he and his mother arrived.
There had been several recent robberies in the Ashbrooke neighbourhood, but this time, the would be robber was lucky to escape with was his life.
Murrin stressed that Oden just ‘did his job’ to protect his home and is loved by all the kids in the cul-de-sac and the local community.
Murrin told WRIC:
He knew that someone was not supposed to be in my house and no one was home and he knows that [the intruder] wasn’t supposed to be in there and was doing something that he wasn’t supposed to be doing. And so he knew to act upon it.
Murrin said the family are now sharing their story in hope of finding the intruder, who would seemingly have serious injuries that require treatment.
Police have investigated the scene but so far no arrests have been made.
